First Listing

I'm still working out the best format for listing these, but without further ado, here's the first business opportunity summary...

*** New web site needs lawyer to create some 'stock' agreements to be used by the website itself and distributed free to visitors. Estimated scope of work is 40-80 hours which can be spread out over a number of months. Compensation would be deferred cash payments, conditional on success of the website. ***

As new opportunities are added, I will create some sort of list view that links back to the full text of the summary. If you're interested in learning more about one of the opportunities, send me an email. If you think you know someone else who might be, let them know about the web site.

I've also added some useful links to the page. I exepct to update this list pretty frequently. Let me know which of the links you find particularly useful (or useless).

Rebranding and Keeping in Touch

Well, the web site is less than an hour old and I've already had to do my first 'rebranding exercise' when I disovered that I had a typo in the name of the blog, and my original first choice (sweatequity.blogspot.com) was already taken. StartupMatch.blogspot.com (the best I could come up with in five minutes) doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, so I'm pretty sure I'll change it again once I come up with something good. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. At some point I'm likely to move this to a 'real' web site that can support some features I may not be able to do on a free blog, so if you want to be kept up to date on the whereabouts of this web site, it would be a good idea to let me know that you'd like to be included on my 'mailing list'.

How It Works

Note that right now the whole process is manual and based on email. Eventually I'm planning to set up an automated system with forms for everyone to fill out. Also, note that for now the service is completely free. I'll be periodically posting updated lists and profiles of the individuals and firms that have sent me their information, and if anyone expresses an interest, will provide a 'virtual introduction'.

Small Businesses Looking for Skilled Professionals:
You have a small business (or an idea for a business) that relies on professionals such as programmers, lawyers, accountants, marketeers, graphic designers, business analysts, or testers. However, you don’t yet have the revenue to hire specialists with these skills. The future of your business may rely upon your ability to find someone with the skills you need who is willing to work for little or no upfront pay, in return for equity or other upside participation in your firm. We will help you find that person by matching the specifics of your business and your requirements with the profiles of the many professionals we have on file.

Send me an email with the following information (at a minimum) about your firm: name of firm, website (if any) of firm, what is the firm's business or purpose, your name, additional contact information, your role or title with firm, number of full time employees (if any), approximate revenue (order of magnitude is all I need), what type of skilled professional you're looking for, approximate scope of need (ie full time permanent, 10 hours/week for 3 months, etc.), what type of payment you're willing to consider providing (ie stock options, cash, royalties on sales, etc.) I may reply with follow up questions, and will post a summary of the information you've provided within a few days. If anyone expresses an interest in learning more about your opportunity, I will provide a 'virtual introduction'.

Skilled Professionals Looking for Upside Potential:
You are a skilled professional, such as a programmers, lawyer, accountant, marketer, graphic designer, business analyst, or software tester. You have a steady, but unexciting career. You wish that you could join a start-up business with the potential to cash out someday, but you may be unwilling or unable to sacrifice the stability and salary of your current job. We will help you find a small business willing to hire you full or part time on your terms and happy to let you share in the upside potential of their firm.

Send me an email with the following information (at a minimum) about yourself: name, profession, specific skillset, contact information, availability (ie full-time, 10 hours every week, a few hours here and there, etc.), type of opportunity you're looking for (ie join an early stage software startup, make a few $ with a side job, etc.), what type of upside participation you're looking for (stock options, royalties, cash, all of the above, etc.). Sending me a resume would not be a bad idea. I will not post anything (like your name or names of any of your employers) that would compromise your anonymity. I may send you an email with follow up questions, and within a few days will post a summary of your profile on the web site. If anyone expresses an interest in speaking with you, I will provide a 'virtual introduction'.

Introduction

The mission of startupmatch.blogspot.com is to help introduce entrepreneurs to skilled professionals interested in participating in the upside of a start-up company while working full or part time.

This site will be starting simple and small, but I'm planning to add lots of useful resources and features over time.
